"Don't Be Silent Berlin" | Against hate speech online
Berlin, 21.12.2017. Facebook is facing an increasing amount of hate speech and is looking for the most innovative communication concept in the "Peer To Peer: Facebook Global Digital Challenge" to respond to hate speech online. Master's students of Strategic Design and Marketing Communication of the design akademie berlin beat 85 international university teams and together with the other three finalist teams from Brazil, Bangladesh and Lebanon will travel together to Washington D.C. on January 30th, 2018 to present the concept to Facebook.
"Facebook will review the various campaigns and try to find which of them could be successful in the future," says Prof. Katrin Androschin, Head of the MA in Startegic Design programme.
The students of the design akademie berlin were selected after a thorough examination by EdVenture Partners and, after submitting the concept, provided measurable proof of a weekly report on the hits, links and comments of their measures. The measures include a guerrilla campaign, flyers, posters, cooperation with a refugee organisation and social media measures to raise awareness among the target group of 18-30 year-olds.
"We want to encourage people to show initiative and do something about the spread of hate," explains Mark Cichon, a student of the MA in Marketing Communication programme at the design akademie berlin, SRH Hochschule für Kommunikation und Design.
