The course of study for storytellers and celluloid fans
Design films and bring stories to life. Produce spots, short films and experimental films. Undertake directing, rework a piece in post-production and bring it to the screen. If you want to learn everything there is to know about the right camera and cutting techniques, storytelling, directing and digital post-production, then the course of study in Film + Motion Design is the one for you. The official application deadline for the winter semester is 1 September and for 1 March for the summer semester. Once the deadline has passed, you can still apply for free study places. The internationally-orientated Bachelor’s course of study in film and motion design includes a combination of real film and motion design which is very much in demand in practice. The focus of the content is on the filmic communication of an assignment for the communications industry. New content and formats are always being promoted, particularly online. With us, students learn how films are conceived and produced - from the first idea to the first screening. They are also instructed in film theory, dramaturgy and direction. Innovative narrative forms are also on the syllabus, as are interactive campaigns, short films, music videos and cinema spots.
The design akademie berlin in Aufbau Haus on Moritzplatz will provide you will access to the latest hardware and software for your film projects. Large studios, a film and motion studio, 4K camera technology, cutting and post-production spaces, lighting and sound technology equipment form the basis of your work on your film ideas. Under the guidance of professors and lecturers from the professional world, you’ll learn: How to use experimental stop-motion technology, how to skilfully use real and animation films and computer-generated 2D and 3D visualisations.Apply here!
Your career prospects
Graduates of the course of study in film and motion design are well positioned to create and produce innovative narrative forms. The project-focussed and business-aware course of study opens up access to media or full service agencies, film productions and TV channels. Future fields of work for film and motion designers include, for example: Direction for film productions, creative production for cultural productions and TV, design-focussed music videos and websites and artistic short films.

Send in 2-3 short pieces of film work. We are consciously avoiding providing a specific theme. The works should provide a glimpse into your personal development as a film-maker. You can attach a short written description to the works, as well as your approach, for clarification.
