Your curriculum includes package design, advertising psychology, typography, design, art and media history, digital layouts, corporate design and cross-media design. You will develop style, taste and the knowledge of why something appeals visually. The internationally-recognised BA conveys a variety of design techniques and conceptual know-how as a fundamental foundation. You will learn to express messages visually. You will use classic graphic design, analogue and digital photography, film and web development and illustrative design. With us, you will experiment with different materials, techniques and programs. We have high standards and are happy to challenge you. All students are coached personally: professors and external lecturers from agencies and companies stimulate you again and again to think in new ways.
The university has light-filled studios, two modern photo studios, a darkroom, a complete film studio and powerful computers for post-production of computer-generated images and films. The learning environment of our university is at current agency level and is located at one of the creative centres in the Aufbauhaus in Berlin-Kreuzberg. You will complete your studies in communication design in 6 or 7 semesters.
Your career prospects
The internationally recognised Bachelor of Arts (BA) offers a professional foundation for immediate career progression. You will also be able to access numerous postgraduate and Master’s programmes both at home and abroad.
Graduates have a wide range of career opportunities. As experts in visual design, they are highly sought out in advertising departments of large companies, advertising agencies, multimedia communication agencies, in the fields of packaging design, in the media, in cultural institutes and at state institutions.
You can apply in writing or online and will participate in a two-stage selection process. In order to highlight your passion for design, please complete a portfolio with 10 to 15 of your own design works. You can upload the portfolio together with your application and send it to us, or bring it with you to your personal admissions interview.
